Robert Thornton is a Scottish
Professional darts player who
competes in Professional Darts
Corporation events after his switch
from the BDO in May 2008. He is the
current holder of the prestigious
Winmau World Masters, having won the
title in November 2007
His appearance at the 2008 World
Championship saw him reach the
quarter-finals and this form was
quickly reproduced when he won the
2008 Dutch Open, an event which had
over 5500 entries.
Other good performances saw Robert
reach World number 1 in the BDO
rankings, this was the turning point
for Robert’s career when he signed
for MODUS Sports Management in May
2008 and became a full time
Professional player.
Robert qualified for the 2008 UK
Open and beat Michael van Gerwin in
his first PDC televised event. This
was quickly followed by
qualification to the Las Vegas
Desert Classic at the first attempt.
Robert did not have to wait long for
his first PDC success, when he won
the 2008 Australian PDPA Event in
August. |
